SHOULD BE SMALLER
WAR PENSIONS BOARD MR. V. J. LARNER’S VIEW Reduction in the personnel of the War Pensions Board was the suggestion made to the Auckland Provincial Patriotic and War Relief Association yesterday afternoon by the vice-chairman, Mr. V. J. Larner. Mr. Larner thought that it would be to advantage if the board could be reduced from five members to two—the Commissioner of Pensions and a medical adviser. He said that there should be no need for a travelling board now that the Pensions Appeal Board was in existence. A substantial saving could be made, and Mr. Larner did not think there would be an objection to the change, provided the Appeal Board remained as it was. The saving could be used in relief. At the association’s annual meeting, seven retiring members of the executive, Messrs. C. J. Tunks, C. V. Houghton, H. Horton. W. B. Leyland, E. W. Inder, G. H. Wilson and A. F. Mackay, wore re-elected. Mr. Larner referred to the death of a prominent member of the association, Mr. J. H. Upton. On the motion of Mr. Wallace, appreciation of the services of Mr. Larner, the committees, Mr. T. B. Kay. secretary, and the staff was recorded. The chairman, Sir James Gunson, and Mr. H. Horton were granted leave of absence by the executive.
