PRIEST’S JUBILEE

MONSIGNOR CAHILL HONOURED PARISHIONERS’ GIFT The parishioners of the Church of the Assumption, Onehunga, gathered in force last evening for purpose of congratulating Monsignor Cahill on his having completed 25 years in the priesthood. A MONG those present were the Mayor and Mayoress of Onehunga, Mr. E. Morton and Miss Morton, Mr. tv*. J. Jordan, M.P. for Manukau, and Dean Van Dyke. Mr. D. Heslop and Mr. R. Donovan, on behalf of the Hibernian and Holy Mary Societies, respectively, paid warm tributes to Monsignor Cahill’s work in the parish. Mr. Jordan spoke of the strong bond of attachment existing between Monsignor and his people and of his kindly assistance to those in need of consolation, sympathy and advice. In presenting Monsignor Cahill with a handsome chesterlield suite on behalf of the parishioners. Dean Van pyke referred to the recipient as a good shepherd who had the gift of so handling the black sheep of his flock as soon to make them white. The presentation, he said, was given by the parishioners ;is a token of their esteem and appreciation of his services.

Monsignor Cahill suitably acknowledged the gift. During the evening a programme of vocal and instrumental items organised by Miss Madge Higgins, L.A.8., was given by Misses M. O’Grady, Phillips and Scott, Messrs. G. Jones, L. Turtle and K. Bryant. Miss I. Pean played the accompaniments.
