NORTH SHORE’S BUSES
FIFTY-ONE NOW OPERATING NEW LICENSES GRANTED Fifty-one buses, with 69 drivers, are now operating in the North Shore marine suburbs. When the No. 2 (North Shore) omnibus licensing authority met at Devonport last evening, licences for 26 buses operating in all the suburbs were granted, subject to the production of Public Works Department certificates. The Blue Star Bus Company, Birkenhead, was granted permission to vary its timetable and fares on the route from Birkenhead Wharf to Birkdale and Beachhaveu. For the company, it was stated that an extra trip was provided at peak load times, morning and evening, but four trips were Mopped during mid-day when there was competition from motor-cars. Slight adjustments in fares lowered the existing tariff in an an effort to encourage people to shop in Birkenhead. Another early morning trip from Beachhaven carried few passengers because of launch competition.
