STOLE SIX MOTOR-CARS
busy young man MYSTERIOUS “MR. KENNEDY” Press Association INVERCARGILL, Wednesday. Charges of converting to his own use si* motor-oars on various days from May 5 to May IS, were admitted bv a young man in the Police Court today. Senior-Sergeant Fox said matters had been somewhat complicated by the air of mystery introduced by accused since his arrest. Accused stated he had met a man named Kennedy, who toot him to a place near St. John's Church, where he pointed out a car. The man told accused that it belonged to his uncle, and asked accused to drive to Kennington. Accused said all subsequent removals of cars were done under the influence of this man. After inquiries had been made, the police had come to the conclusion that there was no such person as Kennedy. Accused had stated that a car which Was damaged on a bridge had been driven by Kennedy, who was learning to drive, and who had driven it into the bridge. Mr. Ritchie, for accused, said the conversions took place between 2.30 p.m. and 9 p.m. from places where the police were moving about. From that it might appear that the boy thought he had some colour of right to take the cars. Counsel asked that the offences should be treated as one. The magistrate said he would take a little time to consider what should be done, and would give his decision later. An appeal for the suppression of accused's name was granted.
