AT ST. JAMES

“DIGGERS” HOLD SWAY A bright and sparkling show is Pat Hanna and his Diggers, now at St. James. It is seldom that Auckland sees such a well-balanced and an exceptionally good all-round company, and the large audience present last evening showed its appreciation in no uncertain manner. There is not a dull moment in the whole entertainment. New songs, sketches and dances whirl away the evening all too soon. The •Diggers 1029” show will long be remembered. “Musical Memories” were very interesting, being excerpts from popular musical comedies and comic operas of past days. They brought back memories of old favourites of the theatres. “Miss Hook of Holland,” “The Mikado,” “Sally,” and other well-known pieces were given excellently. “In Hospital,” a waj time sketch with Pat Hanna and Joe Valli in the lead, brought the house down with the humourous imitation of two diggers “swinging the lead.” The historical feature. ‘The Landing of Captain Cook.” with its dressing true to the period, is well worth seeing alone, and shows wonderful originality on the part of the producer. With such a well-balanced company it is no wonder that St. James rocks witli laughter nightly. Pat Hanna and his Diggers are worth going a long way to s£o.
