VOICE TEST FOR SCREEN ACTRESS . The introduction of Vitaphone talk* ln K pictures has given motion picture critics a new viewpoint in appraising actors and actresses. Formerly the critics gave minute attention to the Physical make-up of the artist, but today the voice of the principal is the {Post important thing. An interesting incident which occurred recently m New York illustrates this statement v *ry well. Carlotta King, who has the leading feminine role in the "Warner Bros, and itaphone picture. “The Desert Song.” "'as the honoured guest at a tea at ■which most of the film critics of the metropolitan dailies we.re present. In {he old days of silent movies, a visiting star was subject to all manner of nutations by the critics about her work in past pictures, directorial help and what-not. but the critics today demand a “voice hearing.” Miss King, at the request of some °f the guests, sang the songs which will give in “The Desert Song urj d some others which were composed for her by her husband. Her voice is particularly strong and clear *nd everybody received her with much enthusiasm.
Alice White, the dynamic little blonde star . has commenced work on the musical cornedv production. "Broadway Babies.- More than SO dancing girls support the star in this musical show.
