His Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral. Kir Charles Fcrgusson, and the I La.civ Alice Fergusson, attended the Victoria League’s Empire Ball last evening. This evening his Excellency will ho present at the opening o£ the new premises of the Officers’ Club and tomorrow evening he will be the guest o£ the Auckland Savage Club. Hr. J. H. Upton, who was taken 111 on Sunday, is still suffering from the effects of a severe chill. . 0 r w. Nash, Palmerston North, left the Limited at Frankton Junction this morning, and left later for Rotorua. Mr. K. S. Williams, M.P., arrived in Auckland today, and is staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. J. C. Hudson, formerly viceconsul for the United States in Wellington. has arrived in Sydney from Singapore, ajid will assist in the American Consulate there. Mr. L. B. Campbell, inspecting engineer for tho Public Works Department, vrrived from Wellington by the Limited this morning. He will make a tour of the North Auckland district. Mr Will Appleton, managing director of the Charles Haines Advertising Agency, Limited, left by the R.M.S. Tahiti on Tuesday afternoon on a business trip to the United States. Canada and Great Britain. I The Right Hon. J. G. Coates, Leader of the Opposition, arrived from the North this morning, and is staying at the Grand Hotel. He will accompany the Minister of Railways, the Hon. W. B. Taverner, when he goes North tomorrow. Mr. P. Hull, a foundation member of the Auckland Real Estate Institute, who recently celebrated his eightieth birthday, was presented with a silvermounted ink-stand at the institute’s dinner last evening in appreciation of his many years of service. Mr H. L. Wise, M.Com., who has ' been on the staff of William Wood and Co- Ltd., Christchurch, for the past 12 vears has been appointed to the position of district officer in the Department of Industries and Commerce at Wellington, and will take up his new duties about the middle of next month. Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., of Hamilton will relieve at Auckland next month while Mr. E. C. Cutten. S.M., is sitting on the Postal Appeal Board for about six weeks. Mr. Wilson will return to Hamilton one day each week, and on other days the court work will be carried on by the Thames and Rotorua magistrates, Messrs. F. W. Platts and S. L. Paterson.
