“KING OF KAWAU”
LAST SHOW TONIGHT Tonight Auckland will have a last opportunity of seeing the delightful farce, “King of Kawau,” presented by University College students at St. James Theatre. The show has been played before large audiences, who have entered fully into the rollicking situations arising out of the near bankruptcy of the kingdom of Kawau and the .raffling of the Prince Dolphin to replenish the depleted exchequer. As is inevitable in student extravaganzas, local politicians and dignitaries of one cloth and another have come in for burlesque in bright wit. Thus much is heard of the City Council. the Transport and Hospital Boards and members of the Church. The leading feminine part is exceedingly well done by Miss Freda Gaudin. fcjhe sings with sympathy and pleasing naturalness. Set opposite her as the Prince Dolphin, Mr. Huia Fryer-Raisher, whose tenor voice was listened to with merited attention. does his part with ease and simplicity. Others having important parts are Messrs. F. Muftin, E. Brodie, R. Aubin, R. Fenwick, J. L. Gregory and D. Plummer, and Misses Jean MacCormick and Ruth Walker. A brightly arrayed bodyguard sings choruses in rousing fashion, and the ballets, arranged by Mile. Valeska, give finish to the production. Mr. Trevor Sparling Ikes arranged the musical programme, and he conducts the large orchestra. SUBURBAN THEATRES At the Prince Edward Theatre the pictures are “Q. Ships” and “Synthetic Sin” (Colleen Moore). An excellent vaudeville programme will be given by “The World’s Entertainers.” At the Grey Lynn Cinema the films are “Captain Nash” (Victor McLaglen) and “Toni” (Jack Buchanan).
