STRAND
“IN OLD ARIZONA” God made her beautiful—greed made her treacherous. Far her, the “Cisco Kid” risked death itself while she yielded to the man who hunted him. There is all the romance of Old Spain,, all the adventure of Young America in this fascinating spoken drama, “In Old Arizona,” now at the Strand Theatre. “Tonia’s” wild-cat temperament will enthrall. The Irish “way wid the wimmen” and the blarney of “Micky Dunn” will amuse, but most of all will the audience remember the rich, thrilling voice of that greatest of lovers, “the Cisco Kid.” Actually filmed and recorded on location, “In Old Arizona” r a distinct step forward in the art of the talking picture. For the first time Fox Movietone brings to the screen not only the realistic settings but also the natural sounds of the great outdoors. The voices heard are voices as they really sound out in the open. Every part is a speaking part. Featured in the leading roles are two brilliant screen stars and a fascinating stage favourite —Edmund Lowe as Sergeant Dunn, the heartbreaking cavalryman: Warner Baxter as the Cisco Kid. outlawed Don Juan of the desert: and. in her first screen appearance, Dorothy Burgess as Tonia, the fiery, fickle, light o’ love, who pays the price of infidelity in one .of the most startling denouements ever filmed. The remainder of the programme is also made up of “talkies.” There are Honolulu songs by the Royal Hawaiian Singers, a musical turn by Beatrice Lillie, the London musical comedy star, and events of the day in sight and sound.
