BIRKENHEAD BAND
ELECTION OF OFFICERS The Birkenhead Borough Bard held its 11th annual meeting in the Y ictoria Ho.ll, Birkenhead, last evening, the McPhail, presiding. lne balance-sheet, which was adopted, showed the hand to fce in a financial position. This being Mr. McPhail's first public function since occupying the mayoral chair, he was welcomed by the members. The Mayor, in reply, stated that he occupied the same position then as when the band first came into existence, and he was pleased to see so many of the original members still playing in it. He was sorry that not more of the general public were present to know of the difficulties under which the band had been working. He congratulated the treasurer on his bal-ance-sheet, which was a credit to the band. As a mark of respect for Mr. A. Eady. who had been connected with the band since its inception, and who had died since the last meeting, all present stood for a minute in silence. The election of officers resulted: Patrons: the Mayor, Mr. J. P. McPhail, Mr. J. C. l’eomans; vice-patrons. Messrs. C. B. Campbell, H. Patten, J* Taylor, G. Sutcliffe, H. Clark, the Rev. C. B. Fletcher, J. McF. Knox, T. Farrell, R. E. Walker. J. H. McGovern. £• Taylor, W. H Darlow, J. YV. Craven and R. G. Dudding; conductor, Mr. J. T. Lighton; hon. treasurer, Mr. P. McGovern; hon. secretary, V. Queenin; assistant hon. secretary, C. Patten: librarian, Mr. B. Sapworth; hon. auditor, Mr. X. J. Stewart: committee, council representatives, Messrs. Jasper, Hewson and Hayman: band representatives, Messr. Pugh, Swindail, Huddle*tone and Stott. J. Macdonald and £• Lanigan. Mr. X. Lunny was made band corporal. It was decided to try and raise during the year to provide for new uniforms.
