ACCLIMATISATION DISTRICTS
ROTORUA AND OPOTKI COMBINE (From Our Otcn- Correspondent) OPOTIKI, Thursday. The Opotiki Acclimatisation Society has received a letter from the district manager of tne Government Tourist Bureau, Rotorua, stating that amalgamation of the Opotiki district with Rotorua has been agreed to, and will take effect from July 1. The society decided to apply for <£so worth of fry, to be liberated in the Otara and Waioeka Rivers. It was also decided to apply for 100 brace of pheasants, and 25 Tasmanian black opossums. Mr. W. Cobeldick, chief ranger for the Tourist Department, visited Opotiki yesterday and took away a number of pheasants for Rotorua. These will be replaced later on with a fresh strain. Mr. Cobeldick stated that, now that amalgamation with Rotorua was accomplished, it will be necessary for Opotiki sportsmen to form a local rod and gun club to look after their interests in the Opotiki district.
