DIOMEDE ENTERTAINS
TOWN HALL CONCERT As a result of the very successful concert given in the Town Wall last evening by a concert party from H.M.S. Diomede the fund for the maintenance of the Auckland City Mission's night shelter for homeless men will benefit to the extent of about £4OO. The concert itself realised £2OO, and this is subject to a £ for £ Government subsidy. A large audience crowded the Town Hall to hear the fine musical and variety programme presented by the sailors. A number of selections and novelty items by the band, under Bandmaster F. Kirkby. were well given. Considerable amusement was caused by the clever impersonations of the men, and the mock ballet “The Diomede’s Fairies” added further amusement. Among those contributing solo items ■were Marine Watson, Able-aeaman Page, Lcading-seamar. Thompson, Marine Wheatley, Chief-stoker Smith and Mr. Price, in vocal items. Ableseaman Pike contributed a cornet solo *md Marine Newton a trombone solo. Further items were given by Mr. A. A. Joyce and Stoker Lafferty. The accompanist was Mr. A. V. Rice. The concert reflected great credit on the organiser, Mr. A. M. "Watts.
