local bodies to meet IKR. F. S. MORTON’S POSITION With the object of settling Mr. p S. Morton's position on the TVahSport Board before May 31 {he Mount Roskill Road Board held a special meeting last evening and decided to convene a general meeting of all the local bodies represented by Mr. Morton. rpHESE Include the Mount Roskill, 1 One Tree Hill and Mount Wellington. Road Boards, the Panmure and gjleraUe Town Boards, and the Onehunga Borough ancil. The Mount Roskill Road Board decided to call i meeting of these bodies for Monday, evening, May 27, at the office of the One Tree Hill Road Board, Manukau Boad. . .. . Up to the present it is not known whether Mr. Morton has tendered his resignation to the chariman or secretary of the Transport Board, but, as ns has stated that he Intends to leave rhe Dominion for South Africa owing t 0 ill-health, the local bodies interested naturally desire to reach some Snality before -jr 31. Otherwise, a costly poll will be required under the Act in order to elect his successor, ,hould he withhold his resignation until after that date. The local bodies are safeguarded under the Act by having the power to recall Mr. Morton, but this procedure oust be enforced before May 31. So far, Mr. G. E. Tansley, ex-chairman md member of the Mount Roskill Road Board, is the only candidate for the position, and he’is being supported a majority of his board.
