MARRIED 65 YEARS AGO
MR. AND MRS. EDWIN HARROP CELEBRATE ANNIVERSARY YESTERDAY Yesterday was the 65th anniversary of the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Harr op, of Newcastle Terrace, Mount Albert. Mr. Harr op, who will be 87 years of age next month, and Mrs. Harrop, who is in her 85th year, were for over 50 years residents of IvawaKawa, moving to their present home three years ago. They were married in St. Paul’s Church, Princess Park, Liverpool, and celebrated their golden wedding in 1914 and their diamond Avedding in 1924. Mr. Harrop, who was born in Cheshire, commenced work in the Lancashire mines at the age of 11 years, being apprenticed later to the shipbuilding trade. He was a shipwright at the time of his marriage. He was four years at sea as a ship’s carpenter, and at the end of that time came to New Zealand with his wife in the barque Estrella, arriving in Auckland in 1870. For six years Mr. Harrop was a member of the staff of the Bay of Island Coalmining Company and then entered the building trade on his own account at Kawakawa, leaving there three years ago owing to the ill-health of Mrs. Harrop.
