WORK FOR THE YOUNG

CHRISTIAN ENDEAVOUR ’‘The Wider Work of Christian' Endeavour" was the subject of a lecture given last evening by Miss Jennie Street, of the British Christian Endeavour Union, in the Pitt Street Methodist; Church. Mr. C. Densem, president of the Auckland C.E. Union, presided. Miss Street described the organisation of and control of the C.E. unit from junior society to federation, giving special attention to the needs of Auckland. She thought that the Auckland C.E. Union was too big to be called a union. It should be a federation. She told the meeting that the Christian Endeavourers should be organised into district societies, so that the work of each branch could be carried out the more thoroughly. There should never be any cases of one society attracting members Jrom other churches or other societies. The duty of Christian Endeavourers was to their own societies, and very little good was ever done by people running about from one church to another. Miss Street emphasised the fact that Christian Endeavour was essentially an institution for the young. The societies should look at their rolls, and unless there was very good reason for their presence, the elder members—those over, say, 28—should not remain in the society. Christian Endeavour was a thing that should be carried on by the young from generation 1o generation. Mr. H. B. Bristow, senior superintendent of the Auckland Union, thanked Miss Street for her helpful advice. He thought that she had come at a very necessary moment in the history of the Auckland Union. The work was just beginning to suffer from the Jack of trained and efficient control, and he was sure that her guidance would be of use. It was announced that Miss Street would address a meeting of junior C.E. members in the Pitt Street Church on Saturday.
