What the Barrier Showed At Wanganui
In its efforts to convey to racing enthusiasts the information they really : require. The Sun has always been to the fore. Now the stay-at-home supporters of the sport are to be catered for to the extent of giving, whenever possible, the barrier positions in flat races. A start is made to-day with yesterday’s racing at Wanganui, a racecourse that is of the oval variety, and a most difficult course to win on unless a horse draws a good marble. There were four flat races yesterday, including two divisions contests, three being started at the six-furlong barrier, and the fourth at the mile and aquarter post. The draw at the latter peg is just as vital as that at the j sprint position, as will be explained. j From the six-furlong post at Wa- j ngaimi there is a run of just under j two furlongs, with a big bend of nearly j three furlongs, and just a furlong run ? home. On the outside of that barrier, about twelve horses out, there is more : loose sand than turf, so it will be seen that a bad marble there is pretty bad. j The mile and a-quarter start is j located just before. the straight is i reached, a slight bend, with only a S furlons straight to move along when
they straighten up. Then they come to a particularly sharp bend of two furlongs, going out of the home stretch, until they straighten up at the six furlongs, and then as above. From this it will be seen that the draw at Wanganui is of vital importance. In supplying this information to readers, The Sun is only paving the way for others to follow—-as they surely will.
