DARGAVILLE PROTESTS
PROPOSAL TO DELAY AUCKLAND EXPRESS I TIME-TABLE ALTERATIONS (Special to THE SUN) DARGAVIL.LE. Wednesday. Dargaville residents are opposed to the proposal to delay the departure of the Whangarei express from Auckland, The Dargaville Chamber of Commerce has sent the following telegram to the Minister of Railways, the T-lon. W. B. Taverner:—‘This chamber enters a strong protest against the proposal to delay the departure of the northern express unless it is speeded up to allow of the arrival of passengers and mail at northern centres as at present.” The secretary of the chamber. Mr. B. S. Angus, has also forwarded the following letter to the district traffic manager at Auckland: “Regarding reports that the departure of the North Auckland express is to be delayed, thereby running correspondingly late over the whole journey, I beg to lodge a strong protest on behalf of the chamber against any alteration in the time-table that will delay the arrival of passengers, mail and newspapers in this town later than 4 p.m. as at present. It is unnecessary to point out the many disadvantages of a later arrival, these being quite obvious to all. If it is the intention of your department to speed up the train so that it will arrive in the north at the same time as at present, it is needless to say that this chamber will have no protest to voice.”
