NEW SEASON OPENS
AUCKLAND ORPHAN’S CLUB Songs, instrumental items, and a few interesting addresses combined excellently at the thirty-eighth opening of an Auckland Orphans’ Club session in Scots’ Hall, Symonds Street, on Saturday evening. Mr. J. B. Johnston presided. After reference had been made to the deaths during the year of eight members, messages conveying wishes for a successful season were received from the Christchurch and Gisborne Savage Clubs, the Birkenhead, Northcote, Takapuna, Onehunga, Rotorua, Hamilton, Paeroa, Papakura, and Dunedin Orphans’ Clubs. The orchestra, under Mr. Harold Baxter, played the overture, and a selection. Songs were given by Messrs. A. Ripley. A. E. Allan. IV. Scott, E. Snell, and Stan. Pritchard; violin solos by Master John McGregor; vocal quartettes by the Lyric Pour, Messrs. A. Ripley, H. Richards, A. McElwain, and E. Thomas: and humorous items by Messrs. A. McElwain and O. Pritchard. The accompanists were Messrs. T. Sparling. Cyril Towsey, and P. Stewart. Thirty-two new members were elected.
