SECRETARY RESIGNS
COMPETITIONS SOCIETY DIFFICULTIES PRIZES STILL UNPAID From present indications it seems doubtful whether the Auckland Competitions Society will be holding a festival this year. Financial failure during the past year or so has discouraged the executive. The affairs of the society will be considered at a meeting of the executive committee this week, and one of the items of business to be considered is the tendered resignation of the secretary, Mr. Frank Adeane. Mr. Adeane says that he will no longer be able to continue in office because he does not feel inclined to continue making the necessary personal sacrifice. There are some competitors who continue to complain that they have not yet received prizes won not only last year, but also the year before that. One of these competitors speaking to-day said that the prize itself was not the important point, but the irritating thing was that the society had given no acknowledgments of any sort. When previous inquiries were made, officers of the society said that the prize question would be considered at a meeting in March, but to-day the president, Mr. Andrew Menzies, said that prizes were only now being considered.
