SHARES BY BALLOT

HARBOUR BRIDGE SCHEME MR. E. ALLAN’S PROPOSAL His campaign in connection with the Auckland Harbour Board election was continued by Mr. E. Allan at Otahuhu last evening. Mr. R. B. Todd, Mayor of Otahuhu, presided. Mr. Allan expressed the opinion that the erection of the harbour bridge should be fostered by the Harbour Board. The scheme should be financed by either the issue of Harbour Board debentures, or by the formation of a special company to issue £1 shares, to be disposed of by ballot. Reduced wharfage charges were also favoured by the candidate, in view of the possibility of considerable opposition from trans-Tasman air traffic. In reply to a question, Mr. Allan favoured the construction of a bridge across the Tamaki River, connecting Otahuhu with East Tamaki. A vote of thanks was accorded the speaker.
