“UNFAIR CRITICISM"

NEW LYNN DIFFERENCES CANDIDATE’S COMPLAINT A complaint against what he described as unfair criticism was made by Mr. W. L. Titchener, who advanced his candidature for the Mayoralty of New Lynn in an address to a crowded meeting last evening. After giving liis policy for the progress of the district, Mr. Titchener declared that unfair criticism had been thrown at him by his opponent, Mr. H. O. Browne. Mr. Titchener pointed out to his audience that Mr. Browne had been a resident of New Lynn for about three years only. There were several interjections from one member of the audience, when the chairman, Mr. O. E. Putt, was introducing Mr. Titchener. Mr. Titchener maintained that the roads in New Lynn were improved, lighting had been extended, the Whau Bridge construction proposal was in its definite stages and no transport question had been neglected. Mr. Titchener went on to say that the Town Board had successfully defended a court action brought by Mr. Browne, who was present at the meeting. “It is to be noticed that Mr. Browne, through a circular, challenged the board in opcm debate,” Mr. Titchener proceeded. “That challenge is only bluff. Mr. Browne said in the circular that there was no balance sheet. The facts*are that the balance sheet was delaycid because the town clerk broke down through ill health, but it is now open for inspection. At this stage one well-known resident was asked to leave the meeting. Mr. Titchener answered questions and received a vote of thanks.
