In "The Case Of Lena Smith,” directed by Josef von Sternberg, for Paramount, Kohler has a sympathetic .role and James Hall is seen in a menacing part. In this romance between a dashing young cavalry officer in the Austrian army, and a Hungarian peasant girl, Ksther Ralston is Lena Smith, who comes to Vienna for adventure. After a caree.r or romantic leads, Hall plays a villain s role opposite the blonde star. Fred Kohler, who is remembered tor his villainous roles in “Forgotten Faces” and “The Drag Net,” is seen in the part of a Hungarian farmer, who gives his ten years’ earnings to he.p the girl recover her child.
