MORE CLERGY NEEDED
ANGLICANS AT HAMILTON REPORT ON YEAR’S WORK (From, Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, To-day. That the places of two clergymen, the Rev. H. G. Sell, who left in November last, and the Rev. J. Rich, who followed a month later, had never been filled, was stated in the report of Dean G. R. Barnett at the annual meeting of parishioners of St. Peter’s Cathedral. The services had been kept going through the work of five lay readeis. There were only 5,73 S communions last year, as against 6,504 during the previous year. This was explained partly through there being fewer celebrations. On the other hand, congregations had improved. Collections did not show a great falling off, but the subscriptions did. The need of repairs to the cathedral was stressed. More buildings are also needed at Hamilton East, Matangi and Gordonton. There was nearly enough for this latter work, and the Matangi fund was growing steadily. Small funds had also been started for work at Newstead and Piako Road.
