GIFT AFTERNOON Aliss Phyllis Nicholson, Frontier Road, was the guest of honour at a gift afternoon on Wednesday given by Alesdames S. Clark and R. Noonan at the latter’s home in Teasdale Street, Te Awamutu. Some thirty guests were present, the afternoon being devoted to music, elocutionary items anrl competitions. Airs. Teasdale was the winner of a competition, Miss Be van being awarded a consolation trophy. The bride-to-be was the recipient of a number of valuable presents. Airs. Noonan received her guests wearing a smart frock of black panne velvet. Airs. Clark wearing bois de rose jersey velour.

Miss Cotter, french grey costume and | '“«• —- PAPATOETOE PRESBYTERIANS 6 ,— £ WOMEN’S SOCIAL GUILD £ A record number of members and friends of the Papatoetoe Presbyterian § Hedies’ Social Guild attended the first meeting of the session held in the Papatoetoe Presbyterian School Hall, Great South Road, yesterday afternoon. Mrs. T. H. "Roseveare, president of the guild, presided, and extended a cordial welcome to the large gathering. A very enjoyable programme of musical numbers, which was rendered, met with the unanimous approval of the 1 gathering, each item being encored. The following contributed: Miss Dulcie Hughson and Miss Asher, pianoforte < solos; Miss Asher, Miss Mary Wilson, j ' Miss Marjorie King and Miss Robert- ] son, vocal solos; Mrs. Carroll and Miss , Rita Grinter, elocutionary items. The , programme was organised by Mes- , dames A. Muir and A. W. Hall. Stalls were erected in the hall, and were the means of adding revenue to the guild's funds. VICTORIA LEAGUE FAREWELL TO MEMBERS The ever-ready committee of the Victoria Deague yesterday morning : gave a morning tea farewell to three . members of the league who are leaving 1 on overseas visits. Vases of autumn-shaded flowers and snlall ferns placed by the windows ! made the room look very attractive. The guests of honour were Mrs. J. B. McFarlane, president of the EverReady Committee, who is leaving on a visit to Canada, Mrs. Angwin, who will in future reside in Australia, and Mrs. Webster, who is leaving on a visit to that country. MANGERE EAST WOMEN’S GUILD PRESIDENT’S “AT HOME" The supper-room of the Mangere i East Public Hall was prettily arranged 1 as a drawing-room yesterday afternoon, when Mrs. E. Pledges, president, - of the Mangere East Women’s Guild, tendered a very enjoyable “at home” to the members and intending members of the guild, prior to the commencement % of the ensuing session, which starts = next month. The tables, which were arranged “ round the room, were prettily decked \ with tall vases and bowls of gold and ji maroon dahlias, and michaelmas | daisies. . j A couple of enjoyable solos were con- \ tributed by Mrs. W. W. Massey, and Miss Scarborough rendered some * humorous elocutionary items. Mrs. . McDonald fulfilled the duties of accompaniste. COSTLEY HOME CONCERT j Members and friends of the One- ; hunga branch of the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary entertained the inmates | of the Costley Home at a concert last j evening. ‘ Mrs. T. Moor, convener of the entertainment committee, organised the j concert, the items being received with ! great appreciation by those present. ' The programme consisted of songs by Mrs. Edwards, Mrs. C. Paple, Mr. Pliilpott, Mr. C. Paple, and a duet by .
