MANY STORES ROBBED
YOUNG MAORI RUN TO EARTH GOOD CAPTURE BY CARRIER (From Our Own Correspondent) HUNTLY, To-day. For some little period a series of petty thefts and attempted burglaries of stores in the Ohinewai and Rangiriri districts have been going - on, and as the area has no constable between Mercer and Huntly, the would-be thieves have had a rather free hand. Last night, for the third time in two months, the store of Mr. Adam Gall, at Ohinewai, was broken into and blankets, shoes and a cardigan jacket were stolen after the front door had been forced open. On the arrival of Rata Te .Momo, Mr. Gall s carrier, he started off to investigate for himself. He ran a young native to earth at the railway station at Ohinewai, after a stern chase, and detained him pending the arrival of the Huntly police. The lad is only 17 years old. The missing property has been recovered.
