HUIA DAM

DOUBLE SHIFT STOPPED WORK WELL AHEAD The acting city engineer, Mr. J. Tyler, recommended the City Council last evening to discontinue the second shift at Huia Dam, thereby saving £l5O to £l6O weekly. Mr. Tyler reported that the whole of the pipe-lines and tunnels from the dam to the filtration plants at Titirangi were complete, and all that remained was to finish off the dam itself. To date 24,000 cubic yards of concrete had been put in, and another 16,000 yards would complete the work. There should be no difficulty about completing the work by the end of the year. The disposition and condition of the plant and the arrangements generally did not warrant a continuance of the double shift. The Works Committee was empowered to act.
