NORWEGIAN SHIP SUNK
MARINE COURT’S VERDICT KAITUNA OFFICERS BLAMED MELBOURNE, Tuesday. The Marine Court which inquired Into the collision between the Norwegian steamer Selje and the Union Company’s steamer Kaituna on Good Friday night, found that it was due to negligence. Articles 18 and 2S of the collision regulations having been disregarded by the master and third officer of the Kaituna, who alone were blameworthy. Great praise was given to the masters of bofh vessels for their behaviour after the collision. ‘ The Selje, 6,630 tons, foundered about 120 miles west of Port Philip Heads at 10 p.m. on Good Friday after a collision with the Kaituna, 2.042 tons. The crew of the Kaituna rescued the crew of the Selje. The Selje had a cargo of 114,000 bags Of wheat on board, valued at £75,000. The master of the Selje, Captain Kndreson, and the wireless operator, Osbjornsen, were the last men to leave the ship. They had to jump into the sea. Osbjornsen was a quarter of an hour in the sharkinfested waters before he was picked iup.
