FLOODLIGHT SOCCER

SEVEN-A-SIDE TOURNEY BLANDFORD PARK TO-NIGHT A novelty which should attract a largo crowd at Blandford Park tonight is a Soccer tourney bv artificial light. Sixteen senior clubs have entered teams for the seven-a-side tournament, which will be played on the knock-out system with handsome trophies for the winners of the final. The knock-outs are played for five minutes each way; there is no off-side rule, and in the event of no goads or even goal scoring, corner-kicks count as points. The game is fast and furious and should give the players some good limbering-up training for the start of the competitions on Saturday, and as all of Auckland's most prominent senior players are engaged there should be some brilliant and lively bouts tonight. The tests of the lighting under playing conditions gave perfect results, the flight of the white ball from goal to goal being easily visible from all parts of the ground to both spectators and players, and the players taking part are easily distinguishable in the brilliant and powerful electric lights which flood the whole of the playing area. Play will start sharp at 7 p.m. and the 10 minute thrills will follow each other without a break until the final knock-out is reached.
