“IDEALS OF MUSICIANS”

RECEPTION TO MR. ARTHUR HIRST On Alonday a reception was given to Mr. Arthur Hirst, the famous pianist and music lecturer, who is visiting New Zealand. The reception was held in Lewis Eady’s Hall, Queen Street, and many people came to meet Air. Hirst. He was introduced by Dr. Iv. S. Phillips, and then spoke on “The Ideals and Opportunities of ' Musicians.” He characterised music as the noblest of all the professions, and emphasised the importance of inculcating spirit and “soul” into, the pupils’ playing. Mr. Hirst will give a recital and lecture in the Town Hall Concert Chamber this evening.
