MOUNT EDEN’S SUPPORT
TRANSPORT LOAN PROPOSALS FINAL MEETING OF COUNCIL The Mount Eden Borough Council has expressed its approval of the Transport Board s loan proposals. At last evening’s meeting a petition ; was received from residents in the southern part of the borough asking the council to give its official opinion of the loan poll which is to be taken ! on May IS, as a lead to ratepayers. There was much discussion on this | subject, and eventually the council ! carried Councillor T. Smith’s motion that it would support the full loan ; proposal, as the Transport Board would give service either with trims or buses. An amendment by Cr. J. M. Melville was lost. The Mayor, Mr. E. Jl. Fotier. presided over the meeting, which, l eing the final meeting of the present council, cleared up all th outstanding business of the year The balance sheet showed a total indebtedness in the various accounts for the year of £11,620 16s 9d. and a credit of £17,133 7s 2d, giving a balance in bank and in hand of £ ‘ .508 10s sd. A report was received from th** ti t. He inspector concerning the parking of cars in Mount Eden Uojui. near the Crystal Palace Theatre. This practice was said to have caused several accidents, and the council agreed that signs should be erected in that area limiting parking to 20 minutes. It was reported that during the past year building permits had been issued in the district to the value of £133.073. The council decided to give a donation of £2 2s to the Northern Suburban Railway and Highways League for propaganda and petition expense.-, and £5 5s to the Returned Soldiers' Association for the purchase of a Poppy Day w reath.
