MAJESTIC

THE FLAG LIEUTENANT AGAIN Buring a period of unrest in Shanghai, tlie British authorities were greatly troubled by a gang of foreign anarchists, who were rapidly undermining the control of the Chinese subjects in British territory. That is the setting of “The Further Adventures of the Flag Lieutenant,” now at the Majestic Theatre. At this period a sensation was caused by a beautiful woman, Pauline • Alexander. who had mysteriously wedged her way into Shanghai society. She was to be seen at all big functions, beautifully gowned, and always the centre of attraction. Simultaneously, a number of valuable documents were stolen from the British warship then in port. A reception and ship’s sports were being held and‘this fascinating woman was present. Buring the reception, it was discovered that these papers had disappeared—the beautiful Miss Alexander also. It was afterwards discovered that she had paid a Chinese laundryman to remove the papers. She then concealed the papers in her parasol, and left the ship. She wa.s followed to the village of Wu Ping, where, it was discovered, she had handed the documents over to a suspected group of Bolsheviks, who, it was . found had succeeded in persuading the villagers to rebel. Strangely enough, the woman was trapped with a number of white residents by the Chinese. Her nerve must have given way, for she was found dead oh the arrival of a relief party of British Marines, clasping a poison phial in her hand. Never before has that magnificent British film actress—lsabel Jeans—displayed her dramatic abilities to such advantage as in the role of Paulina Alexander, the spy in this picture. The supporting programme at the Majestic includes “Songs of Scotland,” with special orchestral accompaniment, a comedy and a gazette. The new attraction at the Majestic on Friday will be Victor McLaglen’s latest picture, “Captain Lash.”
