TRACK UNAFFECTED BY RAIN

Komak Shows Improvement

(Special to THE SUN) PAEROA, To-day. ONLY' a fair attendance was present at the Paeroa racecourse to-day to witness the second day of the Oh.inem.nri Jockey Club’s meeting, this probably being- due to overcast weather. The course was in good order, notwithstanding last night’s heavy rain. Results:—

HANDICAP HURDLES Of £200; 11 miles 5 KOMAK (X. D. S. Rumney), b g. by Quin Abbey—Redfern, 6yrs, 0.0, (ear. 9.11), N. Syme 1 1— ODIN, 9.4, E. Warner 2 4—POTOANU I, 111, J. Sharkey .... 3 Also started:— 3 Ramblin’ Kid, 10.12 0 6 Uralla, 10.2 u 2 Boomerday, 9.10 0 7 Brundee Boy, 9.0 . . .. 0 Winner trained by R. A. Edwards, Frankton. Won by eight lengths, three lengths between second and third. Time, 3.19. Odin £533 was made favourite for the hurdles, with Boomerday £4BB next in demand, while Komak, the winner, carried only £263. When the field settled down Odin was in front from Potoanui, Komak, Brundee Boy, Boomerday, Hamblin’ Kid and Uralla. Odin was still in the van along* the back, followed by Komak, Potoanui and Boomerday, these being the only ones with a chance. Komak went to the lead crossing the top and was four lengths clear of Odin into the straight, with Potoanui and Boomerday well back. Komak chanced the last fence, but luckily got over safely and went on to win by eight lengths from the favourite Odin, with Potoanui three lengths back third. There was another surprise in store for backers when they made Unoco (£438) and Indolent (£375) first and second favourites respectively, for two outsiders —Grand Tea (£145) and Whaka King (£202) —filled the divi-dend-paying places. Passing the stand Some Lady, Whaka King, Flitter and Quinsilia were disputing the leading positions and just behind them followed Indolent, Arikitoa and Flitter. At the crossing going out of the straight Flapperette fell and brought down the favourite, Unoco, who interfered with Te Money. Quinsilia, 7W ha lea King, and Some Lady were on terms moving down the back stretch, and this trio were attended by Indolent, Flitter, . High Tide and Arikitoa, the last-named having only Whaka King in front of him at the turn, where Some Lady, Flitter, Grand Tea, High Tide and Quinsilia were all prominent. Then Grand Tea joined issue with Whaka King and Indolent also put in a run. A good finish eventuated and Grand Tea, Arikitoa, Indolent, Whaka King and Flitter appeared to pass the line in that order. But the judge’s placings were: Grand Tea, first, a neck; Whaka King, second, a neck; and Arikitoa, third. WAITEKAURI HANDICAP Of £200; 6 furlongs 3 CURRAJONG (M. J. Lynch), br c, by Lucullus—Minsk, 2yrs, 7.0, S. Bryce 1 1- 7.12, W. Taylor .. 2 6 ROSE LUPIN, 7.0, A. Stead .... 3 Also started:— 2 Awamutu, 9.0 o 5 William of Orange, 7.2 .. .. .. 0 7 Snowplane, 7.0 0 4 Norval Tea, 7.0 0 Won by three parts of a length, -with three lengths between second and third. Time, 1.17 3-5. Awamutu whipped round at the start and took no part in the race. To a straggling start Rose Lupin led out from Currajong, Pellette and Norval Tea, and there was little alteration in the order as they raced along the back. Crossing the top Pellette was just in front of Currajong, with Rose Lupin and Norval Tea following. Currajong hit the front at the bottom of the straight and stayed on to win by threequarters of a length from Pellette, who beat Rose Lupin by three lengths. Norval Tea was fourth, followed bv William of Orange and Snowplane.

RAPIER'S GOLD CUP TOXEUMA STROLLS HOME RACING AT WELLINGTON (Special to THE SUN) TRENTHAM, To-day. For the concluding day of the Wellington Racing Club’s autumn meeting the weather was fine and warm. The attendance was good, and the track was in excellent order after a light shower. Results: SECOND HIGH-WEIGHT Of £ 260; 1 mile S—VIVO, 10.8 1 3—BREAK O’ BAY, 10.0 2 2 IMAROSEBUD, 9.12 ,‘{ Scratched: Aberfeldy. Won' by hale a length; three lengths between second and third. Time, 1.43&. Gala Bay was a good favourite, but began badly, and then covered a lot of extra ground. Vivo was always prominent, and led into the straight from Inferno and Monetize, and in the run home won by a length from Break o’ Bay. Imarosebud was a fair third, and Glena Bay was fourth. HUTT HANDICAP Of £400; 1 mile 1— TOXEUMA, 9.5 .. 1 5-KILBRONSYTH, 8.0 2 3 RUANUI, 9.2 3 Scr.: Joy Bird. Won by ten lengths, one length between second and third. Time, 1.40. Toxeuma, who was favourite, made an exhibition of the field. He led into the straight from Ruanui and Borsalene, then came away to win by 10 lengths from Kilbronsyth. who finished well enough to beat Ruanui by a length. Tidal was fourth. TRENTHAM GOLD CUP Of £1,000; 2 miles. 2 RAPIER, 9.4 1 4 COUNT CAVOTJR, 9.4 2 I—NIGHTMARCH, 8.0 3 Scratched: Pegaway. Won by a neck, two lengths between Second and third. Time, 3.27. Nightmarch was favourite. Joy Iving led till five furlongs from home, where Nightmarch went to the front and led into the straight. Rapier got to the front at the distance and won by a neck from Count Cavour. Nightmarcli was two lengths away and Rapine was fourth.
