New Railway Routes SPEEDING WORK UP PRIME MINISTER’S DECLARATION Press Association WELLINGTON. To-day. An important preliminary step in the Government's railway policy is the linalising of the question of routes. fcsir Joseph Ward stated to-day that Cabinet had confirmed the coastal route for thq Gisborne line. The necessary equipment is to be obtained without delay and the work put in hand as soon as the Public "Works Department can make arrangements. Three Ministers would proceed to the South Island next week finally to decide on the rs>ute to be followed from Picton southwards. Instructions would then be given for the work to be pushed on without delay. Speeding up is to take place on the \\ est Coast line, also in Auckland and Taranaki. The \Vestport-lnangahua line, which is already under way. is to be gone on •vith as fast as possible, and more unemployed workers will be engaged on the contract as soon as the Public AVorks Department can make the necessary arrangements. The Glenhope-Murchison connection is to be prosecuted as fast as possible and work on the M urchison -Ina ngahua line is also to be put in hand and carried on vigorously, thus completing the line to the west coast and establishing rail connection from end to end of the South Island.
