New Trades School
OFFER BY BRICKMAKERS LAND. MATERIAL AND MONEY The nucleus of a scheme by which boys may be taught the bricklaying trade under the best ard most progressive conditions) possible was given by Mr. J. S. Fletcher, M.P., who headed a deputation to the Minister of Education, the Hon. H. Atmore, this morning. Ho cited it as an example of the way in which brickmakers were attempting to solve the problem of training boys about to leave school. The brickmakers of Auckland were offering 20 acres of land and the material to build a trade school, he said. In conjunction with others in the building trade they were prepared to guarantee £7OO a year for three years to help subsidise 25 boys in the bricklaying trade. Interviewed after the deputation had withdrawn Air. Fletcher informed The Sun that as yet no other details could be disclosed as the scheme was merely in process of formation. The aim of the brickmakers was to cultivate a higher standard of tradesmanship among bricklayers.
