TERRIBLY MAULED

MAN’S LEG BITTEN OFF BONDI SHARK TRAGEDY (.lustralian and N.Z. Press Association) SYDNEY; Friday. While Air. John Gibson, of Bondi, a married man, aged about 30, was surfbathing off the Bondi Beach this afternoon he was attacked by a shark, which severed the left leg above the knee and badly mutilated the other leg. The man uttered a faint cry, threw up his hands and fought wildly with the shark. Members of the Bondi Surf Club heroically went to the rescue and dragged the man to the beach, where it was seen that he was almost beyond aid. He died at St. Vincent’s Hospital, a few minutes after admission from shock and loss of blood. Airs. Gibson is at present very ill.
