CANON RESIGNS LIVING
TO CARRY OUT SOCIAL WORK FORMER MT. EDEN MAYOR (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, Friday. 3.t was announced yesterday that Canon J. L. A. Kayll, vicar of Stratford, had resigned his living. .'.n order to dispel the inference that th.s move had some relation to the Anglican controversy disturbing the Waikato Diocese, Bishop Cherrington stated to-day that the canon was not leaving the diocese but had decided to devote his services to specialised church work. He will retain his canonry at St. Peter’s Cathedral and his special work will involve various social activities, including, it is said, preliminary inquiries regarding the foundation of an orphanage in the diocese. At present, Waikato depends on tho Auckland and Wellington dioceses for this service, and it is the earnest desire of Bishop Cherrington that an orphanage be established in Waikato as soon as possible. Canon Kayll is well known in Auckland. where he was curate at St. Sepulchre’s and Mayor of Mount Eden for a period prior to residing in Stratford in 1924. His services have been in great demand at the Waikato Synods owing to his extensive knowledge of Church law and procedure.
