DIED HUGGING HIS HOARDED RICHES
MYSTERY OF LONDON RECLUSES WEALTH An old man who was found dead in a loclginghouse in Newington Crescent,. S.E., on Christmas Eve, hugging war stock to the value of several hundred pounds, was identified by a cousin as Patrick Dunn. Old Patrick, who was about 70, lived in one room, and when he -was found under the bed lie was wearing one boot, a frock coat and trousers, and was wrapped round in newspapers. No one in the district suspected that the old man was in anything but direst poverty, and his cousin, who had lost touch with him since a letter he wrote to him some time ago was unanswered, was unaware of his wealth. Patrick was not, the doctor believes, underfed. His landlady, Mrs. Clements, told a “Daily Chronicle” representative that she knew nothing about her mysterious lodger, who was secretive, and who had no friends in the neighbourhood.
