FELL 36 FEET INTO HOLD
OLD WATERSIDER KILLED ACCIDENT ON TAMAROA Falling 36ft into No. 1 "hold of the Shaw, Savill steamer Tamaroa yesterday afternoon, John Malley, a waterside worker, aged 72, received injuries from which he died a few minutes after the accident. An inquest was opened this morning before Mr. F. K. Hunt, when Charles Warnes, giving evidence of identification, said that he had known Mr. Malley for about IS years and had lived in the same house with him at 131 Wellington Street. Pie was a married man, blit his wife and children were living apart from him in Australia. When the accident occurred, Mr. Malley, who was working on deck, caught hold of a derrick runner which lifted him six feet in the air. Tie then released his grip and fell 36ft to the bottom of the hold. When he had fallen 25ft he struck his head on an iron insulator. He was immediately taken to the Auckland Hospital by the wharf department of the St. John Ambulance, but died on the journey. His injuries Included a fracture of the skull and •sveral ribs. The deceased had worked in the Igjlice of the Shaw, Savill Company years.
