WANTS 399 TO WIN

WELLINGTON BATTING PLUNKET SHIELD CRICKET OTAGO’S GREAT FIGHT Press Association WELLINGTON. To-day. A valuable century by Roger Blunt was the chief feature to-day of Otago’s great fight against Wellington in Plunket Shield cricket. This afternoon. Wellington faced the stiff task of having to get 399 runs to win. Blunt and Monk resumed, McGirr and Rotherham bowling. After three byes Monk was caught close in by Hoar off McGirr's fourth ball. Galland filled the vacancy. Runs then came freely, the batsmen forcing the pace in contrast to yesterday’s play. After a quarter of an hour’s play, with the score at 262, Lambert relieved McGirr. The new bowler failed to slacken the scoring. Galland. hitting hard, sent a full toss from Rotherham to the leg boundary, and drove the next two for fours, 14 runs coming off the one over. Badcock then replaced Lambert, and Hoar took the ball from Rotherham. Badcock kept the runs down. and nearly caught and bowled Galland in his second over. The batsmen brought the scord to 300 at 11.40. when the innings had been in progress for 304 minutes. At 318 Foley relieved Hoar, and Galland was well caught by McGirr at long-off, off the second delivery. The retiring batsman gave a bright display. Cavanagh came in. but skied one from Foley before scoring. At noon the score was 322 for six wickets. A. Alloo was the next man. BIUNT REACHES CENTURY Blunt reached his century just after 12 o’clock. It had taken 205 minutes. He was very subdued at times, but sparkled occasionally to-day. A. Alloo did not. last long, falling to McGirr at mid-off off Badcock, who had relieved Foley. Elmes came in to see Blunt cleanbowled by McGirr. Zimmerman followed Blunt, but fell leg before wicket after notching a single. Douglas was the last man. and at 2.30 p.m. he was bowled by McGirr.
