MAJESTIC
“THE RIVER PIRATE” This evening will see the final presentation at the Majestic Theatre of the delightful picture “Dry Martini,” starring Mary Astor and Matt Moore. Another outstanding programme will bo presented at the Majestic Theatre to-morrow, the chief pictorial attraction of which will be “The River Pirate” starring Victor McLaglen. Those who have read “The River Pirate,” by Charles Francis Coe, which recently ran in the “Saturday Evening Post,” will recall, most of all, that it was, primarily, the story of a boy who never had a chance until he met the girl who plucked him from a life of crime and brought him back to decency and to her. The screen rights to this story were purchased by Fox Films and the directorial assignment went to William K. Howard, youthful director, who has surpassed his prior efforts, including “White Gold,” "The Main Event” and other successes. The central figures are a pair of boon companions, a hard boiled sailor and a mere youth, who team together and engage in river piracy working in the dark of the night and ever pursued by watchful harbour police. This provides for just a few more thrills than come to the usual motion picture and stresses the old maxim that there is good in every one if the right spot be touched. Incidentally, it goes far to prove, that reform schools do not always reform. Victor McLaglen plays the stellar role of tie river pirate with his companion enacted by Nick Stuart, and Lois Moran as the girl in the case, while Earle Foxe is in the part of the double crossing “shark.” An excellent supporting programme of smaller films will also be presented, and new musical items by Mr., J. Whiteford Waugh’s Majestic Orchestra.
