STUBBORN CRICKET
AUCKLAND’S HARD FIGHT FOR WALKER SHIELD BEHIND ON FIRST INNINGS (Special to THE SUN) CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. Cricket of a very mediocre standard was provided by both sides in the Walker Shield competition match between Auckland and Christchurch suburban representatives at Sydenham Park to-day. The wicket favoured the bowling throughout the day. Auckland batted first, and its best efforts yielded only 87 runs in the first innings*. Christchurch compiled 113. In its second strike, Auckland had made 100 for the loss of seven wickets at the drawing of stumps. Barnes unfortunately put his knee out in the second innings, and had to retire.
