MELBOURNE TOBACCO THIEVES Thieves who broke into a tobacconist’s shop in Melbourne at 6 a.m. recently, and looted half the stock - , adopted the new disguise of windowcleaners. They brought with them a windowcleaner’s outfit, consisting of a small ladder, a bucket and a chamois, and a chef who was going to work saw them cleaning the fanlight on the outside of the shop. Later it transpired, however, that while one of the men cleaned the fanlight, the other climbed through -t and ransacked the premises. The thieves, it is thought, had planned to clear out all the stock, consisting of tobacco, cigarettes and pipes, but were disturbed. They left the ladder behind. They are believed to have used t"he bucket to carry away the booty, which was valued at £lO.
