MEMORY RESTORED BY LETTER

Largely through the medium of a letter written by his wife, the memory of Henry Victor Charley, of Dinas Powis, Glamorganshire, was restored. On September 25 Charley walked Into St. Albans Police Station and asked for help, stating he had left home with £l6O to pay bills, but could not remember his name or address. He had been missing from his home since September 11. His wife read the description circulated by the police, and wrote to the chief constable of St. Albans, enclosing a photograph of her husband. When Charley was shown the letter, he exclaimed, “That is my wife’s handwriting,” and immediately remembered his name. During the war he was a lieutenant in the Royal Engineers, and was at one period billeted in St. Albans.
