BOY SCOUTS OF THE SEA
NEW MOVEMENT STARTED LADS TO BE ENROLLED Times Cable. LONDON, Thursday. Boy Scouts will shortly appear on the high seas, according to the latest plan of General Sir Robert Baden Powell, who has founded a movement with the intention of establishing Deep-Sea Scouts as a body distinct from the Sea Scouts now organised at the ports. The object is to carry the Scout spirit afloat by enrolling all boys working on ocean-going ships, so that cabin boys, mess boys and stewards’ assistants will soon have their own troops at work in conjunction with the shore troops. The Scout authorities say there is not a big seaport in the world in which the Boy Scout movement has not obtained a footing, so that when a Deep-Sea Scout lands abroad he will be welcomed and shown hospitality. Arrangements are being made whereby the Scout commissioners overseas will get into touch with Boy Scouts already serving at sea, so as to start troops in the respective ships. By the time the Scout movement celebrates its 21st birthday next summer, it is hoped Deep-Sea Scouts will be sailing all the oceans of the world.
