HINKLER LOOKS AHEAD

BY AIR TO AUSTRALIA SERVICE IN FEW YEARS (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. 10.5 a.m. LONDON, Thurs. Mr. Bert Hinkler, lecturing under the auspices of the Royal Aeronautical Society, detailed the technicalities of the construction and manipulation of machines practically usable in the Anglo-Australian service. The Avian machine, despite that it was not designed for world-wide journeying, had proved the possibility of designing a machine ensuring equal safety and greater comfort. Referring to Commander C. D. Burney’s predicted five-day airship journey to Australia, Mr. Hinkler pointed out that it meant a non-stop journey and also meant the maximum of possibility, therein resembling a non-stop transcontinental train in Australia, which from an engineering standpoint was possible, but which was commercially impracticable. He added: “My experience convinced me of the practicability of a 14-days England-Australia service in comfort and safety within a few years.”
