GAS-TANK EXPLODES WITH GREAT DAMAGE IN SYDNEY SUBURB
Reed. 9.46 a.m. SYDNEY, To-day. An acetylene tank exploded with a terrific roar in the suburb of Newtown, destroying a two-storey shop. Pieces of the cylinder were blown through the walls of the adjoining premises. A large stack of timber was blown up and pieces were thrown hundreds of yards. Houses within a mile radius were shaken. No one was on the premises, but many people had narrow escapes. Fire brigades quickly extinguished a fire which broke out. The premises destroyed were those of D. Reid and Sons, plumbers.
