DIVORCED AND GAOLED
BLACK DAY FOR MALING SYDNEY CORRUPTION SCANDAL SYDNEY, Wednesday. In the Sydney Divorce Court to-day Olivo Maling obtained a decree nisi, returnable in six months, dissolving her marriage with Silas Y. Maling. formerly deputy-manager of the city electricity department. The suit succeeded on the ground of respondent's misconduct with Mrs. Hillas Pittockj. Maling did not defend the action and costs were given against him. Another blow was sustained by Maling to-day. His appeal at the quarter sessions against his conviction on a charge of bribery arising out of the Babcock and Wilcox contract with the late City Council was dismissed. Counsel for defendant asked Mr. Justice Curlewis to bind his client over instead of sending him to prison for six months, according to the sentence imposed by the magistrate. His Honour said it was a case more for an increase in the sentence because of the depths of corruption shown by defendant. He ordered the sentence to stand. Maling was removed to Long Bay prison.
