REGENT, EPSOM

“THE LAST COMMAND” Emil Jannings has' the role of a proud imperious general of the Tsarist Army in “The Last Command,” to be shown this evening at the Regent Theatre, Epsom. Evelyn Brent is seen as a girl of the people, who leaves her revolutionary husband to be near Jannings. Revolution breaks out. The girl helps the general to escape from Russia, then she is killed in a railroad wreck. The general does not know. Stripped of his glory, beaten by poverty, he seeks the girl all over the world. Years pass. In Hollywood they meet, the Red and the general. The Red, a director, the general an extra. The Red tells the general the girl is dead, then casts him as a Russian general. A grim, sardonic jest! GOOD PROGRAMMES AT GRAND The fine picture of Irish life. "Hangman’s House,” from the Donn Byrne novel, will he shown at the Grand Theatre for the last time this evening. Victor MeLaglen has the best role of his career in this picture. An entirely new programme will be shown at the Grand to-morrow, consisting of two big features. The first of these is “The Cardboard Lover,” starring the clever little actress. Marion Davies, in a story of smart American society at Monte Carlo. “Sorrell and Son” will also be shown to-morrow. This beautiful and tremendously powerful story of a -father’s love for his -boy has been acclaimed as one of the finest films ever made.
