New Jewellery
Paris Still Loves Pearls
It is now permissible to wear jewellery with the severely tailored blouse, which has once more returned to favour in Paris; but it must be the right jewellery. Parisian jewellers are showing some very attractive sets of jewelled links for this purpose. In addition to the usual pair of cufflinks, there are two small studs for blouses with vest fronts. For wear with the tailored smoking jacket, which is stiil popular with some women for evening wear, the sets are rather more elaborately jewelled. Jewelled buttons of all sizes and colours are ajso much favoured in Paris. They are usually the only adornment on simple dresses of crepe satin, velvet and georgette, and on silk shirts in pale pastel colours. Parisiennes still refuse to abandon pearls, and there are many variants on the ever-popular necklace. Bracelets of pearls, inset in a silver or platinum band with an edging of chip diamonds, are quite new, and ear-rings of single pearls suspended from a delicate plat-
inum chain ar® shown by the exclusive jewellers. For the woman who is tired of shingled, hair there are attractive jewelled combs, specially intended to hold back refractory locks. A £12,000 Match Alatched jewellery, which one had been accustomed to regard as an Early Victorian fashion, is now one of the striking features of modern jewellery designs. One of the most attractive sets, entirely designed and executed by British craftsmen, was shown recently in London by a West End jeweller. It consists merely of a brooch and ring; yet the two are valued at over £12,000. The brooch consists of a square-cut emerald “framed” by diamonds, and the craftsman has shown his originality by joining the emerald to the outside rim of the brooch with a curved band of still more perfectly graded diamonds, so as to give the impression of a miniature bridge. The matching emerald in the ring is one of the finest stones of its size ever seen in this country.
