The Kaitieke Ladies’ Anglican Guild held a most successful annual bazaar. The following were the stallholders: Sewing, Mesdames W. Edwards, Crocker and F. Vanstone; flowers and sweets, Mesdames Crocker and Misses A. Merry and A. Holder; afternoon tea, Miss M. Edwards and Miss Crocker and M. Inverarity; guessing competitions, Mrs. Cole. A delightful dance was held in the evening, when the winners of the competitions were announced as follow:—Dance competitions, Mrs. R. C. Hamilton and Mr. Alan Gray; spot waltz, Mrs. Edwards and Mr. Lund. Bazaar: "Weight of “liumpty,” Rev. W. Skey; Aveight of cake. Miss J. Carr (Palmerston Xorth), and Mr. J. McLennan tied, and halved the prize. During the proceedings Mrs. Crocker, president, thanked all who had assisted with the success of the function. The funds of the Taumarunui Boy Scouts have benefited considerably from the proceeds of a very enjoyable card evening. Mrs. Melrose and a committee of helpers provided supper. The Scoutmaster, Mr. W. Melrose, returned thanks to all Avho had supported the gathering. Prizes were won as folloAv: “500”: "Women’s trophy, Mrs. Bolland; men, Mr. Read; consolation, Mrs. Reynolds. Bridge: Women’s prize, Mrs. O’Brien; men, Mr. Hiskens; consolation, Mrs. EdAvards and Mr. Pierce. * * * In place of the ordinary service at the Taumarunui Presbyterian Church on Sunday, a musical service Avas presented by the choirmaster, Mr. W. Thompson. These events prove a great attraction, and there Avas as usual a large attendance. Those who took part in the items were Misses M. Davies and J. Grice, and Messrs. E. CalderAVood, F. Ashurst, N. R. Mclsaac, W. Thompson and R. Stevenson. Miss Grice and Mr. Thompson played the accomimniments. A presentation of a racket, which she had Avon in tournament play last season, Avas made to Miss G. Clark, and a similar gift to Mr. D. J. McCracken for the great work he had done as club secretary, were made by the president, Mr. A. J. Delaney, at the official opening of the Ellis and Burnand Tennis Club at Ongarue. Mr. Delaney addressed the gathering, which included representatives from clubs far afield, and Mrs. Delaney played the first ball. Several fareAvell social events Avere held in Taumarunui during the Aveek. Mrs. Beeche gave a jolly bridge party at her residence in honour of Mrs. Wilson and Miss Jean Wilson, of Manunui, who are leaving this Aveek for a holiday in Australia. Mrs. Melrose compiled the highest score, and Mrs. Keller secured the hidden number. At Mrs. Murray’s cabaret, a party was held to farewell Mr. J. Beresford, Avho has been transferred to Masterton. Dancing comprised the major portion of the proceedings, for which Messrs. A. and R. Reardon supplied the music, with an extra from Miss M. O’Brien. After supper, Mr. F. Groom, on behalf of the guest’s many friends, made Mr. Beresford a presentation. * * * At the residence of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Richter, president of the local Plunket Society, the committee spent a pleasant afternoon for the purpose of extending the branch’s farewell to Mrs. P. Keller. Mrs. Richter asked the guest to accept a beautiful crystal vase. A competition conducted during the afternoon was Avon by Mrs. Peek. * * * At the residence of Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Hill, Raurimu, a happy gathering of the Young Helpers’ League, of which Mrs. Hill is president, spent a delightful social afternoon in games and fun. The opening of the moneybox caused great excitement, and proved that the fund had benefited to the extent of £2 5s for the year.
